Do I require a visa for my trip to Ghana?
Unless you are from an ECOWAS
country (this covers the majority of West African nations) and a select number
of other countries) call the nearest Ghana High Commission to your area to
verify if your country is exempt) you will require a visa. As a Ghana tour operator we we can send you information on this. In countries where there is no high commission or consul office for Ghana, we can arrange for visa on arrival for a fee.
Will there be someone
to meet me at the airport upon arrival in Ghana?
Definitely. Ghana's main airport is called Kotoka International Airport in the capital city, Accra. We will be there
at the meet and greet area with a board bearing your name or the name of your
group. Should your flight from the city of your departure take off late just
send us a text to let us know. In any case we will monitor the flight times on
the day of arrival to ensure that should your flight arrive earlier or later
than expected we will be there in time to meet you and transfer you to your
hotel. We will be with you until the end of your tour when we see you off at
the airport for your departure. In the very rare case that your airplane is
delayed from departing back to your home country for an exorbitant amount of
time, all you have to do is call us from the airport and we will come running
to your aid. Again we will also be monitoring your flight back and be on
standby should you need us.
Will the tourguide stay
at the same hotel/s I stay in ?
Yes if there is availability.
Otherwise they will be at a lodging very close to your hotel and you will have
the number of his/their cell phone/s. As well as additional numbers for
emergency.
Can Global Village provide me with a guide who speaks my language?
In most cases we are able to do so as there is just about every nationality in Ghana. This however will be at an additional cost as any such translator will request a fee for his/her services. In the case where we find it difficult to locate someone who speaks your language we will advise you.
How much money should I bring with me? Can I change it to local currency?
Ghana's currency is the cedi (pronounced C.D). You will be able to change money upon your arrival. U.S dollars, Euros and the British pound is the easiest currency to change. Travellers cheques are recommended since these are insured but have some cash with you as some places and local sellers will not accept travellers' cheques.
A lot of people who come to Africa fall in love with African clothes, fabrics, beads, arts and crafts. If you don’t plan to do any shopping you will not need much. In that case if you come on an all inclusive package, US$300 for a week should more than suffice. But you may wish you brought more when you see all the African artistry available for purchase. People should also take into account that airline charges for excess baggage are exorbitant.
(A good rule of thumb for travel to anywhere in the world, to have at least $100 per person per day above hotel costs).
What should I pack with me for my Ghana trip?
All medications...sunglasses...camera...lightweight clothes...hat...emergency number...comfortable walking shoes...swimwear...suntan/sunscreen lotion if you use that...enough money...umbrella(during the rainy season).
Things you use on a daily basis must be put in the bag that you carry with you into the cabin...electrical adaptor if you come from a country that uses electrical voltage other than Ghana’s 240. If you do not bring an adaptor your hairdryer of electrical shaver will blow up!
I hear so much negative stuff about Africa. Is Ghana a safe destination ?
Yes it is and people are friendly and fascinated by those from other lands. One of the best reasons to visit Ghana is the fact that it will demystify Africa. Accra is quite multicultural with many minority communities and expatriates who are posted here. A growing number of European retirees spend half of their year in Ghana. There is cable/satelite television for various parts of the world, cell phones to connect you to your loved ones and the internet. Happily the middle class is growing and closing the gap between the very affluent living in luxurious villas and those in shanty towns. The middle class is made up of professionals and returnees who have lived abroad for some time and prefer the laid back lifestyle and warm weather of Ghana. This part of Africa is not shown on the world media. And then there are pockets of shanty towns and poverty in Accra and especially beyond and a lot of development is still needed and that unfortunately is always shown to the world as if that is all there is. As anywhere else in the world all valuables should be close to your body and have a copy of your passport in a place you can easily access or with us.

How much tip for tourguides or driverguides?
If satisfied with
their service $ 5 per day for the driver and tourguide from each person in the
group is a fair average. If the group is very large there will be more than one
tourguide and possibly more than one driver. Can Global Village provide me with a guide who speaks my language?

How much tip for tourguides or driverguides?
Of course you may give more or less at your discretion and the level of your satisfaction. It is adviseable for the tourleader to collect the tipping money at the onset because many times visitors can use all their money on food and shopping for all those beautiful arts and crafts and leave Ghana with the regret of not having given a monetary thank you to the tourguide or driverguide.
What if I want to experience Ghana on my own?
We can provide you with a tourguide/companion for $50 per day.
Do you offer self drive car rental in Ghana?
Yes we offer self drive car rental in Accra. We offer sedan $ 50 (equivalent in cedis) per day. This price does not include the cost of fuel. Sedan comes on full tank and must be
returned on full tank. This price is for Greater Accra Region only.
